And Then There Were Two . . .
Sunday, August 27th, 2006 at 7:52pmBig news about the Shadow Representative race! (And really, what news isn’t big when it comes to the campaign?)
I got a call yesterday afternoon from John Forster who was one of the two other people running for Shadow Representative in the Democratic Primary on September 12th. It turns out that his employer does not want him to run, so he has had to drop out of the race. Which now makes it a two man race between me and the one remaining candidate.
While I did not agree with Forster’s ideas to give DC voting rights by retrocession back to Maryland, I was sorry he had to give up his campaign. It was a lot of work to the 2,000 plus signatures to get on the ballot, and now with 2 weeks left to have to stop and give up must really suck.
It is good news for me however. One down, one to go

But it’s too late to change the ballots, right? So are they going to have signs up at the polls saying he’s dropped out, or what?
His employer should have said something months ago, but I guess they (like everyone else? then again, TENAC heard about him somehow) were unaware of his campaign.
What a mess. At least the similar situation with Tom Perez in Maryland resulted from a court decision.

I called the DCBOEE to see what happens, and it’s too late to get off the ballot. They’ll have signs that say he’s no longer a candidate. I’m not sure what happens to the votes he gets. I know in the Maryland case they don’t count for anything, so maybe that happens in DC.
I was bit miffed when I saw the TENAC endorsement, as they never contacted me with any sort of questions or anythings. I’m a supporter of rent-control and have seen first hand what can happen with weakened tenants’ rights. I emailed TENAC to see what they are doing now that Forester dropped out, but haven’t heard anything.
